How Does It Work?

Click here to fill out your own Life Balance Wheel!Coaching is all about finding balance in your life – balancing all those things that are important to you while still taking care of yourself and the people who are important to you. A coach will guide you from where you are to where you want to be.

Once you’ve decided to start working with a coach, they will work with you to help you reach goals that you set. Coaching sessions can be done by phone, or if you’re in Davidson County, Tennessee, it may be possible to arrange coaching sessions in person or at your school.

During your first session, you will determine how many times you plan to meet with your coach, as well as how often those meetings will take place (twice a week, once a week, etc.). Once you’ve made these decisions, you will set up a contract with your coach that outlines your plan. Typically, coaching plans last for a minimum of 5 sessions meeting once a week.

During your first meeting, your coach will use the Life Balance Wheel to help you identify the areas of your life you want to improve. Once you’ve chosen your key areas, your coach will ask you some questions so you can determine what goals you want to set for yourself with regard to these areas.

Common topics for discussion:

  • How satisfied are you with each area of your life?
  • Which life area would you most like to improve?
  • Describe what that life area would look like if you were 100% satisfied?
  • What are all the possibilities for this area of your life?
  • If you were at your best, what would you do right now?
  • What is the difference between a wish and a goal?
  • What is stopping you from moving forward?

Your coach will help you identify strategies to reach your goals and figure out what might prevent you from attaining them. With this information, you start working to get from where you are to where you want to be. In your next sessions, you’ll talk with your coach about your successes since the last session and any setbacks you encounter. Your coach will strategize with you on how to capitalize on your successes and work around obstacles.
